It’s that time of year again: time to focus on the future and make some New Year’s marketing resolutions for 2016.
If you haven’t even thought about changing up your marketing approaches, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are just a few of our expert New Year’s resolutions for digital marketing in 2016:
1. Tie up loose website ends.
This could very well mean you have to set aside a day just to comb through every page on your website — but it’s definitely worth it. Those 404 pages and missing title tags are hurting your search engine rankings, and the pages that are bogged down with slow-loading content are making site visitors less likely to stick around.
2. Experiment with new content.
It’s a well-known fact that visuals (such as videos and infographics) are more user-friendly than posts that rely solely on writing. But why stop with graphics? Interactive content, like quizzes, are expected to become more popular for B2C marketing in 2016, and conducting and publishing a comprehensive industry survey is always a great strategy for B2B marketing.
3. Share your knowledge.
You should already be blogging on your own site, if for no other reason than for SEO purposes. Whether or not you’ve been thinking about it already, it’s time to give guest blogging some real consideration. Guest blogging is becoming more popular each year, and there are a few good reasons why.
- First, you’ll get free publicity and you’ll be able to reach a larger audience than usual.
- Second, you’ll get a valuable backlink to your website and it will be 100% acceptable under Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, since you’re creating high-quality original content.
- Third, you’ll be able to start an ongoing blogging relationship with someone you consider to be an expert in your field. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!
4. Swallow your pride and make that Social network account you’ve been avoiding.
An Instagram profile. Or Tumblr page. Maybe LinkedIn. Or Pinterest. Or Periscope your ideas to a live audience. Whatever social media site you’ve been avoiding because you think it’s not worth the time, just set that thought aside and sign up for an account, especially if it is suitable for your industry Remember when Facebook started up? It only allowed college students to create accounts. Within a matter of years, though, it became a giant that was to good to ignore. -But it is usually the early adopters in each industry who receive the greatest benefit…so it’s worth trying.
5. Repurpose what you created in 2015.
This does not mean to copy + paste content, because duplicate content is penalised heavily on Google. Instead, think about how you can take old content and spin it into something new. Look at your social network shares and your web analytics to see which content was most popular for you this year then spend more time concentrating on that topic. If you did a survey in 2014, try doing a follow-up survey. If you wrote an awesome blog post that got tons of page views, try making it into an infographic.
Most importantly, just make sure you are doing something productive. Publish good content, share it to your networks and focus on solving your customers problems with your solutions. This alone will go a long way to improving your digital marketing in 2016.
